To provide the best quality care to all preterm and sick neonates and advocating for optimal newborn health. Also training health care professionals and advancing knowledge of newborn care.
SERVICES RENDERED
- Provides level III NICU care for premature and critically-ill newborn babies.
- 2.Instructional and support services for the families of the newborn including how to properly feed their babies, breast feeding practices, safe formula preparation, safe sleep practices for their babies and safe/comfortable transition home.
- 3.Follow-up home visits for the babies after they are discharged from NICU.
- 4.NICU follow up programme which provides a comprehensive team-based approach to the outpatient care of babies managed in NICU.
- 5.Provides training including neonatal resuscitation/helping babies breath programme for staff and health care professionals in various health care facilities.
- 6. Involved in research activities through which we contribute and the fill the gaps in newborn science.
- 7. Neonatal transport service for movement of preterm and sick newborns from other facilities to the well-equipped OWCH NICU for specialized and advanced care.

OWCH NICU team is comprised of highly skilled professionals including neonatal nurses, Paediatricians and medical officers with experience and interest in newborn care. We are well motivated and committed to providing the highest level of care to premature and sick newborn and meeting the needs of their families to the best of our ability.
EQUIPMENTS
Our NICU is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment and technology including adequate number of incubators, mechanical ventilators, mechanical CPAP machines, multipurpose monitors, syringe pumps, transport incubator, Neo puff machine, video laryngoscope, bilirubinometer, end tidal C02 monitors, Vaccum suction, panda warmer resuscitaire, blood gas machine, high frequency oscillation machine and LED phototherapy units.
We also have gas plant giving uninterrupted supply of oxygen and medical air. In addition is 24-hour power supply.
STAFFS IN THE DEPARTMENT
- Three paediatricians with many years of experience in newborn care.
- A matron with so many years of advanced neonatal nurse practice.
- Nine staff nurses with experience and interest in newborn care.
