How We Are Taking Quality Healthcare Directly to the Community

How We Are Taking Quality Healthcare Directly to the Community

In 2000, an average of 112 babies born in Nigeria did not live to see their first birthday. It has been 22 years since then and that number is down to 56. That’s a lot of progress but we still have much to do to ensure that babies grow and live to see adulthood. This is the mission of the Obijackson Women & Children’s Hospital; to provide the best healthcare for women and children in the South East of Nigeria., out of Okija, Anambra State.

Since our inception in 2015, the hospital has worked incredibly hard to address some of the most daunting challenges facing the health sector in the county. We have since grown to be one of Nigeria’s premier centres for child healthcare.

Whether it is emergency medical transport or state of the art intensive care, our facilities were designed to ensure women and children lack nothing when it comes to healthcare. The hospital is also equipped with a helipad to ensure taking cases from anywhere in the country is not a challenge.

At the hospital, community outreach is one of the major areas we are passionate about. This was the inspiration behind our “Helping Babies Breath” initiative to provide training at lower-level healthcare facilities in neighbouring states. With this programme, we also provide funding, in partnership with the Obijackson Foundation, to families who cannot afford the care they need. Our integrated system of skilled and specialised neonatologists and obstetrician-gynaecologists (OB-GYN) also engages with the community, sharing relevant tips and insights for healthy living.

Looking back at the last decade, I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made as an institution, setting the benchmark and laying a strong foundation for quality healthcare and community engagement in Nigeria. We look forward with hope to what we and the industry will achieve in the coming years.
